The good to know, and other stuff...

I'll try to be brief, because I don't want to bore you.  So, here's what's important about me.

First, what do all those letters mean?  Don't worry, I get asked a lot.  Well, I am licensed in the State of North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS). I am also certified to supervise other addiction specialists as a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS). And, finally, I'm a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC).  Fun titles, huh?

Now for the important stuff...

I was born and raised in North Carolina.  I joined the Army and served during Desert Storm.  During my 20s & 30s I was a semi-professional singer/songwriter and eventually moved to Tennessee where I wrote songs in Nashville for about 10 years.  In 2010, at age 40, I decided to go to college (we'll ignore the arm twisting initially provided by my wife).  After that I went to grad school... twice.  Now I'm back in NC.

I have a Dual BA in Philosophy and English (Creative Writing) from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), an MA in Philosophy from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), and an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Appalachian State University where I also earned a certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling.  While at Appalachian State I completed a year-long Internship at an inpatient substance abuse facility where I provided individual & group counseling, as well as psychological education.

While attending App State I also a taught English for grades 6 & 7 at Warlick Academy, the alternative school in Gaston County.  I have a wife and 7 children, 4 of which are grown, and three small girls at home who take up all my free time.

Although I've only been licensed since 2019, my experience with helping others goes all the way back to my time in the Army.  As part of my job as a Chaplain's Assistant I was involved with counseling and crisis intervention and, on one occasion, was awarded an Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM) for my efforts.

What a difference TWO DECADES makes...

I have been a Licensed Massage & Body Work Therapist for over 20 years. I started out in my hometown of Marion were I had a successful private for over six years. I moved to Tennessee in 2007 and continued my career in massage and worked to advance my education.  I have also had the pleasure of working as a massage therapist in some amazing spas such as Carnival Cruise Lines; Luxor Resort in Las Vegas; Relache Spa at Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, TN; and Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC.

While in Tennessee I began teaching massage and ultimately worked as a Massage Therapy Instructor at Georgia Career Institute in Murfreesboro and Natural Health Institute in Nashville.  While pursuing my bachelor’s degree at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) I also had the opportunity to work with the Tennessee Titans through courses I was enrolled in.

I have also had the distinct pleasure of providing continuing education for other massage therapists since 2011 as NCBTMB Approved Provider for Continuing Education.

When I’m not providing a therapeutic or relaxing massage or teaching others about the benefits and techniques associated with massage, I have been working away at furthering my knowledge and expertise about the human body, kineseology, and exercise and rehabilitation techniques while earning my Master’s degree in Exercise Science & Orthopedic Rehabilitation from Logan University.  When I find any free time, I spend it with my husband and three amazingly wonderful and beautiful daughters (Bean, Monk & Nug), ages 11, 8, and 3.

I believe in a cheerful and knowledgeable approach to Massage that is aimed towards improving the lives of my clients. I specialize in pain therapy and stress reduction utilizing the therapeutic modalities of Myofascial Release (MFR), Medical Massage, Craniosacral, TMJ/Migraine Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, and Lymphatic in addition to Swedish, and Deep Tissue Massage. I have helped clients with concerns ranging from overworked muscles to Fibromyalgia as well as conditions as severe as cancer and Parkinson’s have benefited from increased mobility and pain relief.
